Since the invention of the incandescent bulb, light pollution has increased exponentially, choking out the beautiful, awe inspiring and vast night sky. Lighting on Demand is uniquely positioned on the front lines to provide hands-on advocacy for low and anti-light pollution measures when it comes to exterior lighting.
Warm light lacks the emittance of higher kelvin color temperatures, thus not traveling as far or able to reflect off objects as intensely. Warm light also has less of an effect on our natural circadian rhythm and is less likely to effect wildlife.
Most importantly, avoid lighting that shines upward toward the sky. Be aware of how your lighting is affecting your neighbors; is it shining in their windows at night? Light only along pathways and areas that see foot traffic and where people gather.
Landscape lights can have a decorative and dramatic effect to your homes aesthetic, but limit the use and brightness to the times when it'll be enjoyed most; use a controller to make sure these don't run all night. Extra points will be awarded for lights that dim when no motion is detected.
